Professor Moses SS Chow was awarded his Doctor of Pharmacy in 1972 from the University of California, San Francisco, USA; and he completed his residency in Clinical Pharmacy at VA Hospital, Palo Alto, USA.

Currently, Professor Chow is Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of the Center for Advancement of Drug Research and Evaluation (CADRE), College of Pharmacy at the Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, USA. He is also an adjunct professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, China.

During the period 1973–1998, Professor Chow held various academic positions at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, Storrs, Connecticut, USA; namely Associate Clinical Professor, Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy with joint appointment in Pharmaceutics and pharmacology. Professor Chow was Director of the Drug Development Center (2000–2007) and Professor and Director of the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine (1998–2006), both at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, China. In addition, he was Honorary Director of Collaborative Research in the Department of Pharmacy at Hartford Hospital, Connecticut, USA (1998–2007).

Since 1985, Professor Chow has been Visiting or Adjunct Professor at different times in a number of universities in China: Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong University, Hong Kong; Jinan University, Guangzhou; Fudan University and Shanghai Medical University, Shanghai; Shandong Medical University, Shandong; and at the National Defence Medical Center, Taipei, Taiwan.

In the US, Professor Chow has held the offices of Vice President, American Chinese Pharmaceutical Association (1986–1989); President, American Chinese Pharmaceutical Association (1989–1990); and Secretary, American College of Clinical Pharmacology (1992–1993). In Asia, he was the Founding President, Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy (2001–2004).

Professor Chow has held numerous committee appointments as well as teaching responsibilities in Asia, Europe and the US. Amongst them, he was a member of the Therapeutics Committee at Hartford Hospital, Connecticut, USA, and Medicine Panel at the Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In the past, he has been a member of American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American Heart Association of Greater Hartford Chapter, American Society of Pharmaceutical Scientists, American Pharmaceutical Association, and Honorary Consultant for the Association of Hong Kong Health Care Professionals. He has also been a member of the Expert Delphi Group’s Health Targets Research Project at the Institute for Health Policy and Systems Research, Hong Kong, and of CCTap in Hong Kong. He remains a member of American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Professor Chow’s honours and distinctions include Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (1985); American College of Clinical Pharmacology (1988), and of Chung Chi College, Chinese University of Hong Kong (2001). He was a Syntax Preceptor of the year for excellent teaching in 1997. In 1990 he was awarded ‘Hospital Pharmacist of the Year’ by the Connecticut Society of Hospital Pharmacists; he has been Honorary Advisor to the China-HK Society for Medical & Health Care (2005). Since 2006, he has been Advisor to the Board of Directors of the Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy.

His research interests focus mainly on pharmacokinetics (pharmacogenetics) and Chinese herbal medicine.

Professor Chow has published 10 books, 136 journal articles (research publications, since 1975), 139 review articles (since 1973), 316 abstracts and presentations (since 1974). Furthermore, he has given over two hundred lectures locally, regionally, nationally and internationally to health professionals, academic institutions and scientists.

Since 1996, Professor Chow has been Editor or an editorial advisory board member of a host of journals including: Annals of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Asian Journal of Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics, China Pharmacy, Current Prescribing, Drugdex, European Journal of Hospital Pharmacy Science, Formulary, GaBI Journal (Generics and Biosimilars Initiative Journal), Hong Kong Pharmaceutical Journal, Journal Clinical Pharmacology, Journal of Geriatric Drug Therapy, Journal of Pharmaceutical Research – India, Malaysian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Progress, and Therapeutic Delivery. Professor Chow has also been a Pharmacy Consultant for the English-Chinese Dictionary of Chemical Drugs.
