Professor Wolfgang Frieß received his Pharmacy degree in 1989 and his PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology in 1993, both from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. He continued in postdoctoral research at the same institution until 1995.
Since 2001, Professor Frieß holds a position as Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics within the Pharmacy Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, Germany. Before this, he worked for several years in academia and industry, both in Germany and in the USA.
From 1995 to 1996, Professor Frieß was a visiting Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA; followed by a post as Staff Scientist from 1996 to1997 at the Genetics Institute (Pfizer), Andover, Massachusetts, USA. A research assistant position brought him back to Erlangen University, Germany, from 1997 to 2000.
Professor Frieß is a member of International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology and DPhG–German Pharmaceutical Society. He is also a scientific advisory board member of Coriolis PharmaService, a biopharmaceutical research and development service based in Germany.
Professor Frieß is a co-editor of the European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, an editorial board member of Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, and has published over 50 research papers, patents and book chapters.
Professor Frieß’ primary research interests and goals are protein analytics and protein formulation, drug delivery and composite biomaterials.
