Professor Abdol Majid Cheraghali was awarded his PharmD in 1988, from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Tehran, Iran, and his PhD in 1994 from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Additionally, he has had a Post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology, at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada (1994-1995). Professor Cheraghali received a WHO fellowship to study pharmacoeconomics at the University of Newcastle, Australia (2003).

Currently, Professor Cheraghali is Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Department of Pharmacology, BMS University, Tehran, Iran; Advisor to Managing Director of Iran Blood Transfusion Organization, Iran (since 2006); member of WHO Expert Panel on Drug Evaluation (since 2008), and Pharmacy Education Advisory Board of Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education (since 1998).

Previously, Professor Cheraghali has been Chair of the National Committee for revising national drug policy (2003), Director General of the National Food and Drug Control Laboratories, Ministry of Health and Medical Education (1999–2003), Director of the Iran Drug Selection Committee, Ministry of Health and Medical Education (1996–1999), Director of Office of Rational Drug Use, Department of Food and Drug, Ministry of health and Medical Education (1998–1999), and Chair of Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, BMS University (1996–2000).

Professor Cheraghali is also an Editorial Board Member for scientific journals such as the Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research (since 2002), Blood (since 2006), Hepatitis Monthly (since 2011) and Kowsar Medical Journal (1996–2004).

He is the author of five books and 62 scientific articles in specialised journals.
