Dr Wyatt holds a PhD from the University of Maryland, USA, where she had also obtained a Primary Care Adult Nurse Practitioner Certificate. She also obtained a graduate nursing degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA.

Dr Janet Wyatt’s career in health care spans more than 35 years where she has served as an advanced practice nurse, healthcare educator, executive and advocate. In November 2013, she completed a 3-year appointment as a member of the multidisciplinary National Advisory Council of the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality offering advice and counsel in the development of US national health policy.

Dr Wyatt is currently a volunteer for the US national Arthritis Foundation where she is actively involved in patient advocacy initiatives since 2006 as a member of Board of Directors.

In 2011, Dr Wyatt served as the Founding Executive Director and Consultant to the Institute of Pediatric Nursing, a US foundation of the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB). She was also the Chief Executive Officer of PNCB from 1998 to 2011.

Dr Wyatt has received various awards and honours on clinical practice, military service, publishing and teaching from the US Army, SHAPE/US Army Health Clinic in Belgium, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has received professional honours including the Visionary Leader Award from UAB School of Nursing. She has been a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing since 1974.

Dr Wyatt has published five papers between 2005 and 2012, and delivered over 12 presentations since 2005.

As a patient with rheumatoid arthritis, Dr Wyatt is committed to strengthening resources for patients and families battling autoimmune disease and advocating for increased patient involvement in all aspects of healthcare research and treatment development. As such, she currently serves as a member on a number of research review panels for arthritis and healthcare research, proving both caregiver and patient perspective.
